·

It’s time to start preparing for the end of the school year! That means checklists and to do’s are on the menu for teachers. I have a whole post for you to get prepared and ahead of the game so that you can get your summer started and enjoy the all the fun!

What is an end of year checklist & why do you need one?

Teachers love a checklist (I am guilt of it too). However, an end of year checklist is essential. It is actually pretty simple. The end of year checklist is a list of tasks to do at the end of the year. It is a list that creates a system and helps teachers accomplish all the tasks before leaving for summer break.

Why do teachers need an end of year checklist? There are probably 100 reasons why, but the most important reasons is that you will leave your classroom refreshed or on point for the next school year. I know the feeling of wanting to leave everything as is and head out the door to begin summer break. BUT, I also know that it will be a bigger pain to clean up and organize once August rolls around. Your checklist will make it that much easier for you now and in August!

Here I am , all packed and ready to go!

When should you start?

First and most importantly, don’t stress! Depending on when your school or district begins giving information on end of year checkouts, you can begin planning and setting a layout a month or so before. This will give you sufficient time to begin thinking about organizing things for the end if year storage too. Teachers usually get one week after students are out to finish checkouts.

Some areas to think about organizing into bins (ideally clear bins with labels):

☞books/library

☞seasonal items

☞classroom wall decor

☞teacher desk area

☞art supplies

what is on the end of year list?

Here are some examples on what is on the checklist:

  • photograph your classroom areas (library/books, desk, student organization bins, stations, tech area, etc.)
  • gather clear bins and label
  • technology inventory & gather cords and label to what it belongs to
  • clean out art supplies and student extra materials
  • take down bulletin boards and recycle borders for next year
  • clean and declutter teacher desk area
